Cornice--Wednesday

Some may see it as a little "grandma-ish" but I personally love the revival of the cornice.  I have such fond memories of my grandmother's house and think that I gained alot of insight from her style.  Whether you like it or not, cornices have made a comeback, and "old fashioned" they are not~~
I personally LOVE them and what they do to a room!  Nothing "old" about the above images!  I currently have them in three of my four bedrooms and couldn't be happier with the result.  There are so many options and styles and ways to achieve the result you want for a room.
To cornice or not????  Do you dare?

My Tufted Pieces--Friday

I am so sad that this is a short blogging week because I could talk for weeks about my love of tufting.  There are many different types of tufting.  The detailed version is called diamond tufting and takes a lot of time and talent.  The banquet in my kitchen is diamond tufted and is one of my favorite things in our house (aside from the hubby and kids, of course ;) )  We had a bare 15 foot banquet forever and when I finally decided what I wanted, it was game on!  I used a faux leather and had my fabulous lady go to work!  It took a while but the results are exactly what I was looking for...
Comfy and great to look at!  We could sit here for days!  My boys even bring their blankets in and lie down to watch TV. We are very informal people but love to entertain so this also acts as our dining room, even though it is actually IN the kitchen.
The sofa in my den is also tufted, just not the deep tufting...
I simply love tufting.  Some can take it, some can leave it.  Which do you prefer?

Tufting--Wednesday

I really really, I mean REALLY love tufting and what it does for a room and piece of furniture.  It takes the feel from OK to fabulosity in my opinion.  Chairs, headboards, sofas, banquets, take notice.  Tufting just sends it over the top (in a good way)!  I currently have no headboard in my bedroom because I can't decide on fabric.  One detail I have decided on is tufting.  It will, without a doubt, be tufted.  Check out this headboard that I covet~~the tufting and the curves on the sides.  I die...
The monochromatic look works here, but not for me.  I would totally warm this space up with taupes and grays.  Add a comfy throw and some Kai Bed linen spray and you are set for a good night's sleep!! What are your thoughts on tufting?

My Lucite Pieces

Crazy, crazy last week!  We went out of town on Thursday, therefore the blogging week was cut way short.  However, I did want to show you guys the lucite pieces that I have in my house.  This first piece is one of my favorites.  My house is more modern and it works~~~my mother in law's house is more traditional and it works.

Please excuse my less than stellar picture taking skills, but I hope you get the idea.  This is a fabulous and versatile piece that works with any decor.
My next lucite pieces are so easy to have with the kiddos.  Just wipe clean and go...
I also have a ghost chair in my oldest son's room that he uses as a desk chair.  I do LOVE some lucite!  If you haven't tried to incorporate a piece yet, you should! Thanks for looking!

Lucite Pieces-- Monday

I personally am a huge lucite fan.  It's resurgence has made me one happy girl.  It's outrageous pricing these days has not...  Lucite pieces can completely transform a room and are without a doubt always conversation pieces.  Chairs, desks, benches, trunks, barstools~~lucite is everywhere and all the rage!  Here is one of my favorite lucite pieces that I have seen
AH-MAZ-ING!  Would covet this desk anywhere in my house!  How about you?  To lucite or not?

My Organic Pieces

To wrap theweekofthe...Organic Table, I will show you the pieces that I have incorporated into my house.  I love to mix organic and glamour and truly think it makes a house feel "lived in."  This first piece is my favorite.  I saw it when we were building our house and knew I had to use it somewhere.  It works perfectly as a side table and is always a conversation piece.  It is made of petrified wood and has a glaze on it.  I heart it...
Pretty fab, huh?  It only weighs about 400 pounds...
This next piece I know is not a table but I wanted to show it to you anyway.  I got it at a local consignment shop and love it!  It may not be for everyone but it works perfectly in my study.  It is completely made out of tree wood and is free formed around the back and seat.
A little different, I know, but fabulous all the same!
That concludes theweekofthe...Organic Table.  I hope you enjoyed it and stay tuned for next weeks surprises!  Have a great and safe Labor Day!

Organic Table--Thursday

Today is my Favorite!!!!! table of all time.  Would so love to own one of these big mamas!
Are you kidding me???  It's hard to tell from the picture but the table top is not straight all the way around.  It kinda moves with the shape of the tree it was cut from.  And, oh, that base...Stop it!  What an amazing design from Hudson Furniture.  Would love to discuss the chandelier too, but let's not forget that this is theweekofthe...organic table.  We'll save her for another week...  Because I love this company so much I just have to show you more tables that really need to find a place in my house.  Who cares if it would look like a restaurant???
I'll take any of them, Mr. Hudson, but the first is my favorite. (Just in case he's reading!)
Love the mix of shiny metal with the organic form.  Hudson hit it right on the money with these designs!

Organic Table--Wednesday

This picture comes from one of my all time favorite editions of Elle Decor.  It featured the spectacular home of designer Monique Lhuillier.  Tons of gray tones and furniture that is to die for.
The side table is petrified wood.  Notice the polished top.  I have a similar one in my house and it is one of my favorite pieces.  The rustic and organic mixed in with the glamour is an amazing touch to this room.  Almost like it's a piece of art.  Magnificent!!!

Organic Table--Tuesday

Thanks to Irene my kids had no school yesterday because the AC was out.  Once again, I was thrown for a loop!
This week is going to be all about the organic table.  Use of this element in a room seems to scream "LIVED IN" to me.  Whether it's a coffee table or dining table, it's all the same.  Complete fabulosity!  Mix it will gold, silver, bronze accents and you can't go wrong.

Looks amazing and indestructible, huh?  Works so well with the glamour and the rustic.  Personally, I prefer the glamour room and I have a few pieces of this look in my home (to be seen on Friday!)
This all ties into Irene perfectly for me.  We had the most fabulous oak tree in our front yard that was over a hundred years old.  Well, it was dead and we had to remove it pre-Irene so we wouldn't risk her falling on the house or power lines.  Still have some of her trunk in the front yard that has yet to be removed and I am seriously thinking of a massive coffee table in the den.  Shellaced for a sheen and left in her free form state????  Now to figure out how to maneuver all 600 pounds of her.  Must go ponder ideas and convince the husband...

My Family Room

Ok, so Irene really has thrown me for a loop ~~thought yesterday was Friday...all day~~  It wasn't.  That would be today...
So, I thought I would show you my family room where you could find me and the rest of the family (and probably neighbors) during Irene.

Sectional sofa (I do Love me a sectional) covered in gray mohair.  The ever present club chair with a petrified wood side table and the round bronze coffee table.  Cozy and comfy.  I really do want a different coffee table, just am not sure what...

When we built our house 3 years ago I designed the focus wall.  I covered it in a gray grasscloth then had my carpenter guy make the overlapping grid pieces with matching wood from the floor.  Love how it turned out! With the dog and kids the sheepskin rugs are perfect.  Just throw them in the washing machine and fluff!  Oh, and in case you were wondering, those dang foo dogs did nada to ward off mean ole Irene (that's her rain drops on the back windows!)
That concludes The Week of the Family Room!  Hope you enjoyed and would love to hear your comments!

Family Room Friday

As Irene quickly approaches the North Carolina coast and to wrap up this blogging week, I bring to you MY FAV den of all time.  I know many of you have seen it, but dang it is worth the repeat!

From the home of Ali Wentworth:

Shut up!  Is this not the most scrumptious looking family room that you have ever seen?????  Love love everything about it.  Sofas look mohair and the style is to die for, and that wall color just screams fabulosity.  Dark furniture, dark walls and then that pop of color for the drapes.  It really does look so family friendly and indestructible.  Maybe Ali would invite my kiddos over to put it to the test???  She's welcome to keep them for the week. ;)   I swoon...

Family Room

Well, with the approach of good ole Irene I thought it fitting to start my blog off with The Week of the Family Room.  Bet we will all be spending lots of together time in that room over the next few days!

I, personally don't think I would be worried too much about this silly hurricane if I could be hunkered down in this room, maybe watching an old movie (with the help of a generator, of course).  I would wish for a few more pillows on that sofa and a soft, big and fluffy throw, but the feel of the whole room had me at hello.  The tufting, the Platner coffee table, the dark enveloping walls, the rug, and the artsy chair that is good for nothing except looks.  I swoon....
