This picture comes from one of my all time favorite editions of Elle Decor. It featured the spectacular home of designer Monique Lhuillier. Tons of gray tones and furniture that is to die for.
The side table is petrified wood. Notice the polished top. I have a similar one in my house and it is one of my favorite pieces. The rustic and organic mixed in with the glamour is an amazing touch to this room. Almost like it's a piece of art. Magnificent!!!

Organic Table--Tuesday
Thanks to Irene my kids had no school yesterday because the AC was out. Once again, I was thrown for a loop!
This week is going to be all about the organic table. Use of this element in a room seems to scream "LIVED IN" to me. Whether it's a coffee table or dining table, it's all the same. Complete fabulosity! Mix it will gold, silver, bronze accents and you can't go wrong.

Looks amazing and indestructible, huh? Works so well with the glamour and the rustic. Personally, I prefer the glamour room and I have a few pieces of this look in my home (to be seen on Friday!)
This all ties into Irene perfectly for me. We had the most fabulous oak tree in our front yard that was over a hundred years old. Well, it was dead and we had to remove it pre-Irene so we wouldn't risk her falling on the house or power lines. Still have some of her trunk in the front yard that has yet to be removed and I am seriously thinking of a massive coffee table in the den. Shellaced for a sheen and left in her free form state???? Now to figure out how to maneuver all 600 pounds of her. Must go ponder ideas and convince the husband...

My Family Room
Ok, so Irene really has thrown me for a loop ~~thought yesterday was Friday...all day~~ It wasn't. That would be today...
So, I thought I would show you my family room where you could find me and the rest of the family (and probably neighbors) during Irene.

Sectional sofa (I do Love me a sectional) covered in gray mohair. The ever present club chair with a petrified wood side table and the round bronze coffee table. Cozy and comfy. I really do want a different coffee table, just am not sure what...
When we built our house 3 years ago I designed the focus wall. I covered it in a gray grasscloth then had my carpenter guy make the overlapping grid pieces with matching wood from the floor. Love how it turned out! With the dog and kids the sheepskin rugs are perfect. Just throw them in the washing machine and fluff! Oh, and in case you were wondering, those dang foo dogs did nada to ward off mean ole Irene (that's her rain drops on the back windows!)
That concludes The Week of the Family Room! Hope you enjoyed and would love to hear your comments!

Family Room Friday
As Irene quickly approaches the North Carolina coast and to wrap up this blogging week, I bring to you MY FAV den of all time. I know many of you have seen it, but dang it is worth the repeat!
From the home of Ali Wentworth:
Shut up! Is this not the most scrumptious looking family room that you have ever seen????? Love love everything about it. Sofas look mohair and the style is to die for, and that wall color just screams fabulosity. Dark furniture, dark walls and then that pop of color for the drapes. It really does look so family friendly and indestructible. Maybe Ali would invite my kiddos over to put it to the test??? She's welcome to keep them for the week. ;) I swoon...

Family Room
Well, with the approach of good ole Irene I thought it fitting to start my blog off with The Week of the Family Room. Bet we will all be spending lots of together time in that room over the next few days!
I, personally don't think I would be worried too much about this silly hurricane if I could be hunkered down in this room, maybe watching an old movie (with the help of a generator, of course). I would wish for a few more pillows on that sofa and a soft, big and fluffy throw, but the feel of the whole room had me at hello. The tufting, the Platner coffee table, the dark enveloping walls, the rug, and the artsy chair that is good for nothing except looks. I swoon....
